Prince George , British Columbia Canada

About 11:30 PM

The street lamps actual light emission is exagerated in this photo as it was actually really dark , even with a full moon but yes that's the sky. This is actually above the city with a birds eye view of the city below but forget the romance about the view, people in here have absolutely no belief in it. So much so they never added a  lovers lane for viewing pleasure.

The one car parked in the far right with its lights on sat there the whole while and seemed strange and out of place.

Actually it seems everywhere you look it seems people are looking through predatory eyes or constantly wary and suspicious.

With accusations of a formerly crooked and corrupt civic leadership, an exiled ex-police chief accused of loose at best leadership, and a former top judiciary member jailed, many unsolved murders and missing persons files, a prevalent ongoing drug problem, a nearly vacant downtown core with no anchorage save one hotel and neglected neighborhoods, there's good reason behind the feeling.

For far too long Prince George lived and operated in its tiny bubble virtually free from outside "interference" and people grew complacent and accepting, so now change , instead of exciting and enticing, sounds like an exasperating thing and the new leadship has no yen or appreciation for the ghosts of its past or in its closet. They prefer the city to have a new overcoat and to leave the outer vestiges of its old skin far behind.

I think part of this reason for this is that out of all of the clamour for change, it has come at great cost and sacrifice. Any victory at all for people who have sought it may end up in actuality feeling quite pyhric.

But my politics are all out of whack here as everyone from the City Mayor to the current Premier to the Prime Minister of Canada are all people I never voted for (although kudos the current Mayor of  Prince George I think hes a great guy and excellent civil leader).

Politically I like Conservatives  in government at the civic level, NDP lefters at the Provincial level and Liberals in power at the Federal level. Come next election time I would vote for Mike DeJong if he were the next Liberal leader. Rich Coleman too but I doubt he would win the leadership. Anybody else and I will just vote for a new party which I hope there is one because I was really impressed with Chris 'Silver Fox' Delaney in the last election.

With all that said, things are changing as we speak, and the City seems poised not at the edge of an abyss but at the very edge of a courageous leap forward to exist on the precipice of greatness as multimillion dollar investments of unprecedented scale are in the works. But for the appreciable scale of change yet to come, so large it is that it will probably be a full five years before it is in place and I would be very surprised if it came sooner.

And today was Canada Day so I wore my downy cotton soft pure snow white shorts, a grey cotton muscle t and a red Canada - Vancouver hat with an inukshuk and went out to show my colors and spirit to the world. I figured this van parked outside the store would be worth a cam shot for my blog. The German flag probably something to do with the fervor for the World Cup soccer matches and little else. There used to be quite a few notable cultural exceptions to dry English logic square minded rules here but I no longer see much preponderance or prevalence.

Very beautiful women here too. Something about them suggests a capacity of soul that seems to have a wholesome view of the world with a gentle outline of all things European and sophisticated at the peripherary and not the heart. An untaintedness to them that verges on non-chalance; but borders with a down at home type wisdom that suggests happiness is an appreciable art form that city folks can only crave and are only always PURSUING and yet never reaching. I see more than a few with a sense of satisfaction that can't be bought or found amongst congested freeway arteries, bombastically busy stores with crowded bustling aisles and jammed toll bridges. Need I say more?

If this city and I were destined to be together longer than a month I would have stopped blogging quite a long time ago. Here, I am only as happy as I can be, not happy as I can be. Wider horizons and newer roads and unseen sights are always calling....

Also, I couldnt find any European brand cigarettes here and I looked far and wide and phone every store so if you are coming in from somewhere else without your Gauloises, you cant find them in this town.

It's also no fun living here without the advantage of toys and living without a 4x4 is the epitome of pure ludicrousness if you're male like me . A motorized boat and ATV would make for significant add on accessories as well as a skidoo for the winter but a 4x4 seems like just a start for "surviving" as a male here..no shortage of great outdoors activities if youve got means

....forgot to listen to Canadian music today.....Milli Vinnilli it was, yes, them.Drinking Sprite instead of Coke, iced tea instead of iced coffee...save cola for the windshield:)

I had a brief eye opening spin thru fashion school several years ago and it was very elevating.enlightening, memorable experience.... once the curtains are drawn for you to see 'behind the scenes'' of the  fashion industry your feelings and attitude about cloth and clothing is changed irrevocably

christiane king is on my list of facebook friends and just wanted to breifly showcase her stunning work

A fairly new name to the world of fashion, it seems obvious that the name will be a regular mention on future upcoming red carpet soiree's

Sex in the NEWS
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Arts

Recently, conducting my own shrunk down version of an on-line social experiment, I queryed the worlds most popular search engine in the NEWS section with those three little letters with huge connotations: S-E-X.

For some the source of much pain, anxiety and heartache, a call for tears, pangs of regret and so on so forth.

We have always been chided, told and warned about the saturation effect of mixed-media messages on our minds; with 'sex' as a  selling feature, we need to be constantly filtering our consciousness.

All the tickling feather light articles on the actual health benefits of sex run a far fetched second to the absolute plethora of news items with sex as a headline that are absolutely 100 percent charged negatively.

This is albeit a very simple type of social experiment, one which you can conduct on your own to verify and review my talking points.

While the transition of time over week will supply some vagaries (or not!)-,...at the time of this entry I went through page after page looking for a single solitary article with a positive charge of electricity.

The results astounded me enough to make this blog entry.

From more church abuses, criminal offenders and acts, deaths ,ill rumours and scandals, prostitution, you'd be hard pressed to find a story that is lacking in these elements.

But I did find one or two. One being Candace Bushnell, creator of Sex and the City, is writing two more novels.

The other that the zany behaviour of the sex and the city gals, if practiced and imitated in real life, can bode long term ill health consequences

It seems funny that a show written by men about women and their quest it seems for a perfect guy or relationship, or the best bang for  the buck from a vibrator, or the most mind blowing orgasm... have actually parted company with the most positive life affirming aspect of sex: your health.

But for people in the advertising world, thats going to be a tough sell. So far only herbal essences has done this well with the perfect touch of tongue firmly in cheek.

So here we are men. We have been hit over the head and beat up so often for having 'sex on the noggin'. What was the last count and tally? Oh yes we 'think about sex' every five seconds-lol.

But this is why it is impossible not to.  When you cant open a newspaper without some negatory news item whether its a hockey coach or yet another priest or a school teacher. And then in addition to this are the so-called glitzy glamorous ads all of them with the con job on, hoping to allure us into buying their product line.

Minding my self, this is by no means a complaint on my part. This is the state of the world in its reality and its revolutionary counterpart: the turnstile like vicarious cathartic displacement of our feelings thanks to the advertising and entertainment world.

And as I leave you with an adage, also a question I ask my self: what is it that becomes a trendsetting fashion that shapes our attitudes towards sex? What is the turning point and where is the next one at?

With all this negative outflow of bad sex news in the press (a lot of which we honestly: habitually ignore)  it is hard to say when and where next the pivotal moment will arrive.

One poentiail harbinger of attitudinal change in the patronized celebrated institution of sex  on the horizon are the upcoming sex scenes in the Twilight films coming out and the fact that the star Robert Pattison needs 11 bodyguards seems to suggest a lot .

But remember to filter your mind. Choose wisely. Invest in your self regularly and daily. Youre all youve got ...and for we men, its increasingly a hazardous place for your mind: the market place.

Women do not have it so tough in that category. They have the most influence.  And oh yeah, one more interesting thing I found....have you heard that Australia has a new PM?

Theres an ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM
Mood:  don't ask
Topic: Politics

Welcome to politics in BC. The most politically messed up place out of all the provinces and territories of Canada. And with a threatened recall of government representation in just another 5 months to "reverse" a tax just five months after it started....bound to get messier.

ALL THINGS HST

This cemetary in Toronto is seeing lively business in the run-up to HST

What a bunch of poppycock bull! James Bond would not be amused.

Downing the tax rate for fancy cars while eliminating the incentive for buying a Prius or Ford Fusion.

Interestingly enough, our leader is neck and neck with the Guvnator. So what happened to all that paved ambition on all roads leading to a "hydrogen highway"?

As is becoming more the usual, the 'so-called' leaders are letting citizens drive behind the wheel because they have shown they have lost focus and more scarily, ...taken their eyes off the road.

Best way to lead is to stand by your principles. And a good starting point for that is to actually have some in the first place!

 Now.  ....

With BC still a part of Canada the last time I looked at a map and read the paper, and BC'ers not so far obtuse to begin not calling themselves Canadians as well as British Columbians...whether they like it or not, and they may be at pains to admit it, as hard as it may be to try and wrap their heads around it...

...by far the single most ignored and ironically the largest most overarching issue  that represents the big fly in the ointment

are the unceded territorial land claims of the aboriginal population.

Natives in BC anti-petition for exception to HST

It is what we have in common with other groups such as the Chinese (slave labour for railroads), Japanese (internment camps) , Germans (persecuted and ridiculed generally),Hindus (banned from entering Canada)..

..our grievances.

That make us bear up to acknowledging our humanity. The issue of human rights are not glib carefree driven pronouncements but firmly entrenched cornerstones and milestones of history. As they have been harbingers of change as much as lenses for defining ourselves, it appears as much in some areas recently the margin for human errs may have been increased...whereas the fallout and collateral damage are unmitigated, the non-action of not responding or taking counter measures are always unjustifiable.

Its really funny sometimes I think when some politicians speak it may be that they are thinking the news goes straight to the Internet.

In my opinion, Gordon Campbell is in no position to make remarks about professionalism. But mine is just one of many ...

Professionalism as it applies to politics is always a work in progress any way isnt it?

Well. Hardly a slam but makes for great copy and headlines.

But what is this really?  Another smoke show? My bet is this has something more to do with Air India bombings and Sikh nationalism than anything.

But what is Gordon Campbell doing getting uptight about it for?

I guess he has so much on his plate, anything is worth it for playing to the camera. The standarized pat protocol I would be willing to accept is to inform the media you are waiting to hear from CSIS to talk direct.

Not play it out in front of the media.

Gordon Campbell you are so fired.

Phased out of interest
Mood:  a-ok

Whereas the cut, pasting and posting of my real first and last name on message boards along with my email address and letters may create a sense of hardship on me personally, in the end, it's really not my problem if  other people choose to do what they will with my emails.

But it also does create a situation where I may be less prone to use my real name.

What else can I do? What would you do? Are you me? Have you ever had personal details of your life made public without your expressed written permission?

Other people new to this country may not understand or appreciate this but may be in for a rude awakening if they cant truly accept our sense of fair play towards our own citizens. As a first nations member at least that is what I hoped.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Canada is something I look forward to happening in Western Canada, and while I appreciate the denizens of comebackalive may not have appreciated the awareness about these historical events that  I was bringing to the board, as someone who felt personally affected by it, it was something I found difficult to restrain my self from doing.

But show me one person who thinks I deserve to have my private matters showcased on message boards like that and I will show you someone who does so with the benefit of anonymity.

And as such not a real trust in their own opinion.

Although I watched the Prime Ministers apology live just  two years ago,  I am yet to hear from, meet, or talk with anyone who can honestly sympathize or commiserate with the negative impact this legacy has imprinted upon my life.

Whereas 'truth' might be a word that generates initial enthusiasm, I find it difficult to believe that everyday Canadians would find it so hard to contemplate for a few seconds what the 'reconciliation' aspect portion of the equation means for the people who have been thrown into these situations that are not of our own creation.

If the owners of that message board had agreed to themselves that I am due any special consideration or respect based on that, they would have certainly removed the offending emails long ago.

I am sure they must be smiling to themselves quite self-satisfactorily.

I have no false sense of pride. Theres no regal bearing in me for descending from someone sent to a residential school, in addition to the painful seperation from parents, to merely say 'treated badly' is a vast understaement.

I have no illusions regarding the facts that my mother, her brothers and sisters, were exposed to the most generally shocking, and most dangerous living conditions in Canada.

I think if people wanted to show they were more generally genuinely concerned about the cultural protocol in general and unafraid to speak about it, our sense of happiness would be self-evident.

What is it that people expect?

Do they want an apology from me?
