A funny biography written about Patty Smyth, former lead singer for a band called Scandal that were moderately successful and popular in the 80's.

Like Patty Smyth and Scandal, like yoo hoid of them right? (in between chewing gum like a washing machine)

But the thing is , she sure is good as a vocalist. Its a voice that insinuates "saucy has limits and nothing over on smouldering and don't you forget it". But in tune and time with the music and background vocals, understated is just a sad word to use.

The lyrics, the sound, the originality have made their indelible imprint and mark on the era known as the 80's and its very appreciable for above-average effort and is clearly time insolvent.

But reading the bio, I am reminded of what any successful musician would be glad to share with you if you have talent and think youre good enough to climb to the top rung by rung......and I would tend to agree: do not underestimate or underscore or under-anything when it comes to appraising the value of a library.

Elvis his self, may he rest in peace, called owning a library card his "licence to dream". And overlooking the sad ending to his life, look where his licence took him?

But if youre dreaming of success as a musician (or anything for that matter) the library has a wealth of knowledge about that trip wired trap door hidden potholed manholed path to success.

Don't forget either, it was a very , extremely wealthy man who bequethed to America, as an example of his largesse and stressing of importance of learning and knowledge, the free public library  institution as we know it.

That man was Andrew Carnegie.

But here if you will and for your listening pleasure is Patty Smyth and Scandal. Who I hope you will agree has earned her degree for favor on the mantle of popular modern music.

Ever so slightly complex emotionally, honest in its yearning, her vocals stretch like a finely tuned  instrument to strike a perfect chord with the bands racously inspired street edged beat;  accentuating that period of dissonance we have all went through at one point in time or another.

In one way its kind of time less.

In another: it doesnt deserve to be simply forgotten.

Felt very happy to have expanded my education to include the Wall.

Back then such moments were fleeting. The signed document that was signatory to the permanent closing of the barrier between East and West Germany is quite literally thousands of pages...long.

Richard Nixon was onto something...

The question is...

what are we doing right now, that in 40-50 years, the world will be begging themselves for an answer: wtf were they thinking?

And thats a good question.

http://www.euronews.net/2010/06/25/towards-a-clearer-european-sky/

This is nothing short of amazing. Absolutely.

I don't really buy the Bering Strait land bridge theory. I think it is only half right, half an equation, it is like the same thing as saying sometimes the most obvious answer is the one you avoid because you think its too simple to be right. When in fact-,...

 oh wait this just in..

"Like nostalgia, sovereignty ain't what it used to be,"..."like the sea ice, our sovereignty problem in the Northwest Passage is melting away."

You can design your own shooze, too. I was just foolin' aroun' cause one of my Facebook friends put hers up (Twit pic link is to mine) and I thought it was cool....what a rad concept to design and order your own footwear.

Yeah so I called them: 'Savannahs'. But I positive someone out there would call them positively gaudy. I know you can be your own worst critic but I was really trying hard not to try very hard. Ordering these would set me back £230.

We walked the loneliest mile
We smiled without any style
We kiss altogether wrong
No intention

We lied about each others drinks
We lived without each other thinkin'
What anyone would do
Without me and you

So hold on here we go
Hold on to nothin' we know
I feel so lonely way up here

You mention the time we were together
So long ago, well I don't remember
All I know is that it makes me feel good now

Saw the International Space Station fly overhead last night and it was a ........-,.................?-,............................pretty boring sight.:)

National Geographic: Space Station Visible All Night Thursday

Was kind of coincidentally strange that it passed overhead in 2 minutes nearly directly overhead and above during the Canada Day fireworks (I was far away enough to notice it as I think if you were upfront and close to the show it would have been hard to notice)   but it did provide an unusual kind of sideshow spectacle that made the annual event seem more "interesting"

And wouldnt you just know it? They are not allowed sex up there

Prince George , British Columbia Canada

About 11:30 PM

The street lamps actual light emission is exagerated in this photo as it was actually really dark , even with a full moon but yes that's the sky. This is actually above the city with a birds eye view of the city below but forget the romance about the view, people in here have absolutely no belief in it. So much so they never added a  lovers lane for viewing pleasure.

The one car parked in the far right with its lights on sat there the whole while and seemed strange and out of place.

Actually it seems everywhere you look it seems people are looking through predatory eyes or constantly wary and suspicious.

With accusations of a formerly crooked and corrupt civic leadership, an exiled ex-police chief accused of loose at best leadership, and a former top judiciary member jailed, many unsolved murders and missing persons files, a prevalent ongoing drug problem, a nearly vacant downtown core with no anchorage save one hotel and neglected neighborhoods, there's good reason behind the feeling.

For far too long Prince George lived and operated in its tiny bubble virtually free from outside "interference" and people grew complacent and accepting, so now change , instead of exciting and enticing, sounds like an exasperating thing and the new leadship has no yen or appreciation for the ghosts of its past or in its closet. They prefer the city to have a new overcoat and to leave the outer vestiges of its old skin far behind.

I think part of this reason for this is that out of all of the clamour for change, it has come at great cost and sacrifice. Any victory at all for people who have sought it may end up in actuality feeling quite pyhric.

But my politics are all out of whack here as everyone from the City Mayor to the current Premier to the Prime Minister of Canada are all people I never voted for (although kudos the current Mayor of  Prince George I think hes a great guy and excellent civil leader).

Politically I like Conservatives  in government at the civic level, NDP lefters at the Provincial level and Liberals in power at the Federal level. Come next election time I would vote for Mike DeJong if he were the next Liberal leader. Rich Coleman too but I doubt he would win the leadership. Anybody else and I will just vote for a new party which I hope there is one because I was really impressed with Chris 'Silver Fox' Delaney in the last election.

With all that said, things are changing as we speak, and the City seems poised not at the edge of an abyss but at the very edge of a courageous leap forward to exist on the precipice of greatness as multimillion dollar investments of unprecedented scale are in the works. But for the appreciable scale of change yet to come, so large it is that it will probably be a full five years before it is in place and I would be very surprised if it came sooner.

And today was Canada Day so I wore my downy cotton soft pure snow white shorts, a grey cotton muscle t and a red Canada - Vancouver hat with an inukshuk and went out to show my colors and spirit to the world. I figured this van parked outside the store would be worth a cam shot for my blog. The German flag probably something to do with the fervor for the World Cup soccer matches and little else. There used to be quite a few notable cultural exceptions to dry English logic square minded rules here but I no longer see much preponderance or prevalence.

Very beautiful women here too. Something about them suggests a capacity of soul that seems to have a wholesome view of the world with a gentle outline of all things European and sophisticated at the peripherary and not the heart. An untaintedness to them that verges on non-chalance; but borders with a down at home type wisdom that suggests happiness is an appreciable art form that city folks can only crave and are only always PURSUING and yet never reaching. I see more than a few with a sense of satisfaction that can't be bought or found amongst congested freeway arteries, bombastically busy stores with crowded bustling aisles and jammed toll bridges. Need I say more?

If this city and I were destined to be together longer than a month I would have stopped blogging quite a long time ago. Here, I am only as happy as I can be, not happy as I can be. Wider horizons and newer roads and unseen sights are always calling....

Also, I couldnt find any European brand cigarettes here and I looked far and wide and phone every store so if you are coming in from somewhere else without your Gauloises, you cant find them in this town.

It's also no fun living here without the advantage of toys and living without a 4x4 is the epitome of pure ludicrousness if you're male like me . A motorized boat and ATV would make for significant add on accessories as well as a skidoo for the winter but a 4x4 seems like just a start for "surviving" as a male here..no shortage of great outdoors activities if youve got means

....forgot to listen to Canadian music today.....Milli Vinnilli it was, yes, them.Drinking Sprite instead of Coke, iced tea instead of iced coffee...save cola for the windshield:)
