Thrilling news...

Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson all turn 50 this year...

an interesting enough prospect to write about? Tantalized are we?

It would be if the writer had mentioned stretched vocal chords and ageing,

or perhaps Tina Turner  <,,toured and performed, wowed audiences (including yours truly) at age 61, no exclamation mark required)

or Cher, <--received a Grammy nod at age 57!)

or how Abba will not ever do a reunion tour so as to not disappoint their most ardent and faithful fans.

Without out even  a blip about employment prospects doing voice-overs in Disney animated movies...or how the real watermark for aging rock star success is if you can manage to keep your tunes out of commercials for Liquid Plumber jingles and into downloadable cellphone ring*tones (I am totally proud to have Michael Jacksons 'Dirty Diana' on mine!)

but alas, if you are motivated enough, voila,

Do read: Time to take a bow

The article makes you want to think about a whipped mocha coffee with nothing but frothy goodness to imbibe instead...

while Pat Benatar, the Go-Go Girls and Tiffany found their stars dimmed to wistful meanderings down memory lane, Madonna has led an entire legion of stand up proper and lay it down lo feminista sexualized singer celebrities beginning with Britney and probably ending with Nell Furtado and even Jewel in between. She led the pack and still does.

The reason this female artist has not led her age limit her appeal is in the same mode and fashion David Bowie has. Letting creativity lead the way and popularity and sometimes fickle public taste not determine your destiny. They seem to have an acute understanding and method downpacked of not taking less than stellar record sales too personally. All great careers have dips and no one should try to jet line a career with such dizzying success so as to captivate fans time and time again with no gaps in between.

Is this the reason for Spears failure beyond poor parenting and bad management?

Many people seemeed to be of the opine she would be lucky a few weeks ago to even reach the age of 30.

With the news circulating of a restraining order of sorts against a bad playuh in her small circle of un`erstanders, I think her prospects of enjoying a long fulfilling life full of continued happiness just improved.

But will the cameras let her? Give us time to forget we need another distraction is the siren call ....

why I stopped posting at the Black Flag Cafe.. ..its the nature of the beast though, both of Hollywood and the Internet

People will die, and then people will talk. One thing I learned upon his passing was that he met his first wife on the set of Brokeback Mountain and she had bore his first and only child. Guess they never were married, eh?

News reports  his first big break in 1996 but askmen.com has a blip that sez back in 1992 he was in a show called "Clowning Around."

Painful, possibly harmful and pointless
Mood:  celebratory

We live in a fashion-conscious figure conscientious world.

Did you want the lastest good dope on dieting and losing weight?

Amidst all the fads and buffonery? Ads for Lean-Cuisine, Weight Watchers and Slim Fast getting to you?

Let me cut to the chase before I start soundling like a late night infomercial for my new ab buster....

University of California scientists conducted a review of 30 research papers involving thousands of dieters over a five year period.

What they found was that many people would yo-yo like a yo-yo when dieting , putting on the weight they lost, back;  and  even them some. Fittingly, this is actually called "yo-yo dieting".

They have concluded that long term this is actually dangerous (are you getting this hon, step away from the weigh scale for a second) by increasing the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and premature death.

Great little article. As it says, the advice as simple as it may, wont become a bestseller but what can you say about Californians, five years and 30 research projects on diets and weight-loss?

Theyre the experts.

Painful, possibly harmful and pointless

Researchers from the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) in Ann Arbor have recently found that programs on pedometer-based walking

reduce weight Without dieting

In praise of ... pedometers

More than a pink pin worn on Sundays
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Science and Health

Isn't it the adage of every salty old Marine, and even a new one, when making up a course of action to: "plan twice"?

This means when making plans let's say a trip you could have to potentially re-adjust your plan a second time in case  things change interim.

This is the thought that came to mind as I read about

one of Canadas largest health authorities keeping information about a controversial laboratory a secret.

Sure it makes for a bold and eye catching headline doesn't it?

To me the reasoning for doing so makes sense, but thats thankfully a decision that rests with a Supreme Court Judge and not a lone blogger on the fringes of the Internet frontier like my self.

After investigating this on my own I came to two conclusions given below, but it's interesting an eye-catching headline be used when it is exactly what stands out that laboratory researchers should be searching for in their work.

The thing I extracted from this is if you are a person worried or concerned about your breast cancer risk and might feel potentially stymied at turns to educate your self well; the two things you may want to consider are this:

  1. it may he helpful to get a second test even if you have already been tested once
  2.  it might seem non-logical or inconsequential at the time, but until more strict procedures are adopted on both sides of the border, schedule your tests if it proceeds to that on a Monday and not a Friday.

From what I can deduce, it might be the difference between a positive and a negative.

I guess in that sense, it's life or death.

Bad Cancer Tests Draw Scrutiny

Thanks for visiting today. I certainly don't mind playing a part however small in raising awareness. A lot of money that that pink raises may go towards research, but what good is it if research and testing is not done to the highest possible standard? It makes a case for those who feel more money should be spent on awareness. Take care..

(todays activity: write sununu and read it upside down, just for fun)

 Anyway

Girl Saves Friend's Life Using Heimlich

What was supposed to be a fun night for two Olathe girls turned into one of drama.

A couple of weeks ago, Sabian Lucas, 9, and her Edna Sosa, 8, were having a sleepover. While playing and eating, Edna began choking on an apple."I was like, 'Are you choking?'" Sabian recalled.
That is when Sabian said she remembered what her mother once taught her."Stay calm," Sabian said.KMBC's Marcus Moore reported that Sabian ended up performing the Heimlich maneuver on Edna."I never did it on a person because I was tiny. So I did it for the first time and I was like, 'OK, I'll try to do this,'" Sabian said.In the end, the apple lodged in Edna's throat came out."She saved my life. Now I have to be really, really, really nice to her," Edna said."She doesn't really have to do anything. All she has to do is be my best friend for life," Sabian said.Sabian's mother is a nursing student. Both girls told Moore that they want to be nurses when they grow up.

Apparently Sununu saved the life of a choking journalist.

Wouldn't that warm the cockles of your heart if the journalist wasn't even a  fellow Republican?

Do you know how it is when every once in a while while reading the news, standing out amidst all the junky garbage/ry stories about crime, mayhem, mishaps, stupidities, oddities and general carnage there comes one that threatens to warm the cockles of yo heart?

You don't? OH, okay but anyway, this one really caught my eye

because it reminded me of the number of times we see a kid or child wildly praised and commended for knowing how to use the 911 feature on the home telephone, cast in the spotlight because she or he knew "exactly what to do" when Mommy or Daddy was found not breathing with the vacuum cleaner still on or something, and spoke calmly and gave great directions to the person on the phone and did exactly as they were told.

And then you read a story like this...

  - - -

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit 911 operator has been found guilty of willful neglect of duty -- a six member jury agreeing with prosecutors who said Sharon Nichols didn't take seriously a 5-year boy's frantic call to report his mother's collapse.

Robert Turner, who is now 7, testified that Nichols accused him of playing games and hung up on him during his first emergency call.

Nichols could get up to a year in jail on the misdemeanor conviction.

Another operator, who took his second call, was described as rude by the trial judge, but showed no evidence of willful neglect.

Robert's mother Sherill Turner was found dead by police three hours after he made the first call.

Picture this:

Bright college student and honors graduate from XYZ US Upstate College travels from Brooklyn, N.Y., to lush, tropical South Florida for Memorial Day weekend and disappear.

In her last known conversation with anybody, the young woman rushes off the phone, saying she's riding to a nightclub with a friend of a friend.

Natalee Holloway, Lori Hacking or Laci Peterson?

No. You mean you have never heard of Stepha Henry?

Also just btw try Googling 'missing black women' in your favorite search engine.

Bicker, squabble & fight
Mood:  crushed out

In a land called New Zealand there is a mountain called Mt Ollivier.

 - --

It was to be the first mountain a young man by the name of Edmund Hillary would climb; his first triumph.

Now that he is dead, a proposal to rename the first mountain Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mt Sir Edmund Hillary, or Mt Hillary is generating some controversy.

Seems not everyone, including the descendants of the person for whom the mountain was originally named are happy with the idea:

Kim Ollivier: Pioneer deserves to keep his mountain

Mt Ollivier was originally named to recognise the exploits of early mountaineer and prominent Canterbury personality Arthur Ollivier, who died in 1897.

Personally I think it would be a fitting tribute to both Ollivier and Hillary to  leave the mountain name as it is.

What they should do is name a cruise ship after Sir Hillary instead or perhaps a school or universoty department if not a whole school/university. What says you mates? Lets stop this senseless bickering shall we? What'd you think Sir Hillary would make of it if her were still around? Right, WWHD.

I say we change our focus to try and determine if Sir was actually still a virgin  right on whereabouts two years before he climbed the worlds highest peak and what happened in those two years.

Cotter laughs as he looks at photographs of the four taken during their voyage from New Zealand. They are shown with some women passengers on their OE. Cotter notes that both he and Hillary are reading newspapers in a photograph, apparently uninterested in their female company. It was shyness rather than lack of interest, Cotter says.

"We were virgins. Ed had never been that near to a woman."

 - - - - -

Of course back then blah blah blah blah blah (blah)

Hillary married Louise Mary Rose on September 3 1953, soon after the ascent of Everest. A shy man, he relied on his future mother-in-law to propose on his behalf.

And yet its so sad. Louise his wife and daughter Belinda were killed in a plane crash near Kathmandu airport shortly after take-off in 1975.

Perhaps they are all together again.

The unsung hero of Everest
