Disney and The Mounties
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: Dis-mounties then?
Topic: News on News

For 1980's Festival Canada celebrations at Disneyland

 4 Mounties

joined Canadian celebrity singing sensation Anne Murray

(seen here singing Canadian classic Snowbird,-lol)

along with members of the Buffalo Child Society Dancers

to provide content for the neccessary Canadian portion of the festivities.

D.R. Turner, the manager of the Canadian Government Office of Tourism
at the time was reportedly estatic, remarking
that Disneyland was "doing an exemplary
job in presenting Canadian culture, peoples
and destinations."

Linking Canada's
name with tourism destination Disneyland can "only be beneficial"
was one of his conclusions.

But the RCMP's exparte linking with what would eventually come to be renamed
'Tourism Canada' was not something that could be entered into lightly.

Nor was an endorsement from the RCMP Commisioner at the time something
that would come without slightly more than easily found chagrin.

In a letter penned to the then Solicitor General at the time, in request for
two Mounties to attend the World Culinary Olympics in
Frankfurt Germany in 1984 he wrote:

"With all we have to contend with, this really seems to be rather
frivolous, but in the eyes of E.A> (External Affairs) and others it is
apparently good for Canadas image, trade and general good will."

The request was granted along with the comment:

"frivolus but worth it".

Source for quotations:

"The Mountie: from dime novel to Disney" by Michael Dawson

- - -

If you ask me I think Canada should make it a point to station
at least two Red Serge Mounties from now on at all International airports in Canada.

Hardly a frivolous
endeavour to be sure but most probably and assuredly most definetely worth it.

It won't be too long after all when even Disney comes to boycott promoting
Canadian culture vis a vis our beloved and revered Canadian mounties.

Here's a story that cant be much better to read for ones health esp after  IV dripping all the sattellite debris and clutter than invades our newsrooms (please do not adjust your set)

..even as  a CTV documentary airs about the haranguing of a man over the insinuations of society that lost its head

..a lone man escapes from a secure prison in Coquitlam BC.

Make that a well connected and slightly well off lone man

and make that a maximum security prison he managed to have 'escaped' from.

The newscast ended with the suggested possibility he may have already fled the country.

Just juxtaposition that for a second against all the hoopla in the news over the actions of our police forces on innocent immigrants coming to Canada to experience freedom.

Somethings not right with this picture.

-  -

So heres something 'new'...

A recently released report from the travel study marketing group FlyEnSure Plus  has determined according to its polls based on surveys of over ten thousand peoples that the top two main reasons people gave and deciding factor for taking a much needed vacation were:

#1) one too many times constantly blowing ones own nose

#2) one too many depressing news casts in a row

---

Somethings' wrong with the world today.

Justive contorted, twisted, hell bent and out of control.

Even after watching a man die on the televised news, a victim of police brutality, or insensitivity or pure male hubris, whatever you want to call it...tasered to death at YVR...it is my opinion that few Canadians would not have their jaws drop even further to the floor and walk away from watching CTV's W-5 programs 2-hour documentary entitled "Monster in the Family" with mixed feelings of disgust, contempt and anger and maybe even a little sick.

It as after being riveted to the film after nearly two hours , that our Prime Minister uses this man, in fact mentioning and using his name, as a out and out poster boy for life imprisonment for 3time violent offendors that  may be the most revolting.

Every0one has their own opinion though, obviously. <__Guy like that makes me feel lucky to have one, let alone the right to post it.

But the documentary "clearly" shows who this man is, as supported by the opinion of well known and respected journalist for the

Globe and Mail's Christie Blatchford

http://ago.mobile.globeandmail.com/generated/archive/RTGAM/html/20070928/coblatch29.html

Her last words really sum up everything pretty well for the way

MOST Canadians feel; I am willing to venture my opine on that.

Oh ok heeeeeeeeeeEEEEEeeeEEEEEEEEeeeEEEEEre's one!

Robert Coates (politician)

was a Defence Minister under Brian Mulroney just after the 1984 election in which the Liberals were defeated.

According to Wik: Coates was forced to resign from Cabinet on February 12, 1985, three months after taking office, for breaching security by visiting a strip bar in West Germany and chatted with strippers while he had secret North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) documents in his possession. The resignation was the first to hit the Mulroney government.

 - -

Well, I heard it was a place called Tiffanys and was considerably more than just a  "strip bar".

(I think it's safe to say that this is what most of us are looking for when we surf on-line!)

Esp. concerning already public figures and already public information but which are sometimes considered "forgotten stories".

What in what in the world is what in the world
coming to when what in the world is the world coming to when
Brian Williams has to explain away to viewers what in the world it
is doing actually RAINING in Cleveland
while his station
is delivering a newscast?

This is actually what happened
when the station was reporting live from the Ohio city
last Monday and hundreds of people...didn't get the picture,
some actually believing the rain falling behind was part of
a chromakeyed backdrop! Huffington also reports.

But this is exactly the type of distraction we Canadians need from
our American counterpart cousins to the South. What, with
all the international attention on the behaviour of our police
forces
at our airport?

An airport which also welcomes people from around the world with million-dollar aboriginal art? Hmh.

Yes, a welcoming place but get that evil smirk off your face first.

And what about the now all but now glowing and brewing
political scandal  about a deported German businessman with allegations of highlevel corruption, lies, deceit and bribery?

At least some of which, has to do with a proverbial: lost letter?

I would say if Prime Minister Harper wishes to pick up some
good reading material next time perhaps he would like to
start with a recent book written by a good lawyer.

Such as this one for instance!

But if rain in Cleveland and disgruntled viewers or taser deaths
at international airports doesn't do it for you, or lost letters
alleging top high level corruption,...maybe this will
do it for you!

This belongs in the 'grace under pressure'

department
award for the week and it has to go to Hillary Clinton her self!
(Yah,  Tiger Williams has the week off) After an open question component
of the recent televised Democratic leadership debate from Las Vegas,

..the most highly viewed televised leadership debate to date...

one erudite looking but possible debutante material female (with
all the aplomb usual reserved for asking future Presidents what
their underwear brand is)...actually asked: what did she prefer:

diamonds or pearls?

Rising to the occasion of being embarrasingly put on the spot
for such an unanswerable question with utter sange froid
Ms Future President Hopeful replied

but not before a daft reference to
never being one to be indecisive......she would like to have BOTH!

Which I am sure we can agree is what we think some women in our
lives deserve, certainly not what made for fodder and heated

debate
on CNN recently, and that is the sad suicide of a MySpace teen
and the ridiculous helplessness the adults who configured in the
story felt. Its called : "intention infliction of emotional distress"

and one thing I can say for sure,  I am glad we are all adults

here and can fathom the emotional landscape of a still developing teenager. Can't we>?
=

Well, to be sure,  enough about the nonsense of the world.

Time for a real distraction
from this zaniness. Here is my recommendation...lose your self

ten bucks and you can't go wrong!
