Do you remember...those funny little things called
"HOME PAGES"?
MSN? FreeYellow? TalkCity?
I do not know what it is that has got me thinking about
the good old days
when part of me knows, the good old days were not always good.
But ten years ago, which is from when the afore-posted link web snap shot was taken, Classifieds2000 had Craigslist beat by light years in terms of fashioning the curve. It looks nicer too if I might add.
But you know something? Those really are the good old days.
From memory I still remember some people I have had the most fleeting of correspondence with even after 10-12 years.
I guess it really helps if the person really "stands out"from the crowd. (And nothing against them, but I dont mean like a rooster puck style hair-do kind of way, either.)
Whereas some people make themselves stand out, others seem oblivious to their wholesome originality. I remember one girl who introduced me (so to speak) to bands like Matt Good and Matchbox 20, when they were then still relative unknowns and barely on the music scene.
And then one late, late summer eve I met this one couple at a bus stop late one night (more like early one morning) as we were all tripping into Vancouver from Burnaby on a late-night owl bus.
Getting and squeezing the last kicks from summer and its warm nights.
We made company for the night, walking around, drinking cans of beer in public, they even invited me up for a drink later (they had just spent the eve at a wedding recpetion when I met them) and we talked into the next day. Turns out he worked for a radio station and she had some tenuous connection to Hollywood.
Anyway! Sometimes I wonder if these two (the girl from the ad and the girl I met that night) were not in fact the same person but of course now I will never know.
Never thought about it, though, at the time. Would have been quite impossible to have occured to me. You know how it is....
But it does help to look back at ourselves and laugh and grin.
The Internet has only gotten wilder since then. We , in realized net-time, are like the old farting fogies of the Internet.
We would not even dreamed of posting photos of ourselves online in drunk fests and such compromising positions. To us-,...that would have been the equivalent of a nightmare.
But, all it took was a turn of the century and click of the clock into a new millenenium and one year after that and...

Now ...in adddition to everything everything being 'emo', pwaned, and something to do with privacy ("what?") you must blog, Twitter, have a presence on YouTube and Facebook as well as MySpace to capture people online and keep them as customers. Whereas ten years ago, these were like feint blicking lights on a far away horizon..
So now here we are these days...when it used to be: PVMYPTOW (please visit my poorly thought out web page).......working the net is tantamount to survival..ahhhhhh the good ol' days? Who has the time?:)
I now direct you to bikini clad Kim Kardashians Twitter background on the Huffington Post.
