ROGER EBERT's October 4, 1991 film review.

The films Director , Robert Mulligan, previously worked in the editorial department of the New York Times newspaper before leaving to pursue a career in television. 

He Directed Gregory Peck in 'To Kill a Mockingbird' (receiving an Academy Award nomination) and directed Reese in the Man in the Moon at age 66.  

YouTube has a hit but out of respect for the acting academy be warned it gives away the films content and ending (Im not as kind as Roger Ebert) 

You can just imagine the care that went into the scene though and get a feel for what the director was trying to do

Last year, Canada was singled out in an international study for failing to meet its obligations for the protection of victims of human trafficking. The 40-page study, titled Falling Short of the Mark: An International Study on the Treatment of Human Trafficking Victims, concluded that out of the countries evaluated - Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Britain and the United States - only Canada and Britain failed to meet their obligations to protect victims under the United Nations Trafficking Protocol and international best practices.

In 1960 Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1901--1972) was appointed a Professor for Theoretical Biology of the Department of Zoology and Psychology at the University of Alberta (Canada).

There along with the psychologist Royce and the philosopher Tenneysen, he established the Advanced Center for Theoretical Psychology that became a center for cognitive psychology over the next 30 years.

In that time his system theoretical approach focused on the modern world of technology that has thrown us humans out of nature and has isolated us from each other.

To overcome this Vereinzelung, Bertalanffy emphasized in his later works the importance of the symbolic worlds of culture which we ourselves have created during evolution.

After his retirement he became a Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the State University of New York (SUNY).

An international symposium celebrated his 70th birthday in 1971. In June 1972, he suffered a heart stroke and died a few days later, on June 12, shortly after midnight.

He was tough to get a hold of but a genuine pleasure to speak with.

has distinguished himself as an award-winning reporter, a foreign correspondent, executive producer and author.

Hurst's investigative work on Parliament Hill led to the tainted tuna scandal that rocked the Mulroney government. As a war correspondent, Hurst covered the invasion of Panama as well as civil wars in Nicaragua and El Salvador. As CTV's Asia Correspondent, Hurst reported on the downing of Korean Airlines 007. He was also in Moscow to cover the collapse of the Soviet Union
in 1991.

Hurst has won numerous awards for journalistic excellence - notably a Gold Medal at the New York Film Festival for his documentary about life in China after Mao Tse Tung, and at the Cannes International News Awards for his
riveting coverage of the Canadian seal hunt.

Quite right, James.

Apparently there are border lineups with lines of trucks up to 10 kilometres long as they try to capture this convict.

And Singapore already has restricted car access to the city!

But certainly the people in THOSE lineups would probably welcome a distraction such as one provided by Mrs Spears.

Saw the Oscar nominated 'Michael Clayton' last night with a small crowd of people on a small screen in a small theatre.

The film is moody, brooding and dark. I noticed the lack of burnishing golden lighting. I really admired Clooneys effort to play an everyman, low key subdued and with admirable restraint.

Overall? Excellent film! There was something about it that seemed to suggest it was deliberately underscored as a production given its weighty subject matter (a billion dollar class action lawsuit ) as it could have easily slipped into melodrama and subplots like alcoholism or WHATEVER. Instead it avoids this with a tightly focused storyline sowe end up feeling aroused,  provoked and riveted to the action on the screen.

I just loved Tom Wilkinsons performance.

Actually, come to think of it, this film is a tour de force.
