Wind Power Sets Sail From Crowded Germany

[Guardian Unlimited] Nearly 19,000 wind turbines cover Germany: dotted across the countryside, nudging to the edge of cities and whirring alongside motorways.

Have invented(invented?) these huge expensive windsails, they look like kites to pull ships in order to cut down on pollution.

Sit Belinda , sit?
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Politics

Anyone remember a star politician named Belinda Stronach?

The woman National Posts once called: " most powerful businesswoman in Canada"?

The same one who earned the World Economic Forums title a "Global Leader of Tomorrow" ?

Fortune Magazines ranking her #2 in its list of the world's most powerful women in business in 2002?

One of Canada's "Top 40 Under 40"? One of  Time Magazines  world's 100 most influential people?

They almost seemed to bleed the virtual ink from politico-tab style
reporting rags dry

with their marriage imbroglio followed by, (or in tandem with? I ferget) Belindas crossing of the Parliament floor over to the Liberals.

Since all that has passed Stronach announced that she would not seek re-election, but will remain in Parliament until the next election before returning to her fathers company as Exec Vice Chair and to spend more time with her growing children, and the creation of a personal foundation to end poverty and disease in Africa.

But a vacant spot would still be left in the Toronto area riding that was hers.

Well, at least that vacant position was still open as of yesterday.

Because as of now
it has been filled by Tim Jones, a municipal political and government veteran.

http://www.yorkregion.com/article/65268

Meanwhile in another far off corner of the political field call if left if youre game
but another former Conservative is considering the same course as Belinda.

This one was ousted from the PC's apparently for choosing to speak out on policy
matters that were "at odds" with the the priorities with Stephen Harpers minority government.

Hmh. Maybe poverty, AIDS and homelessness are not exactly priorities with
the new government which is always constantly drawing its comparisons for progress against the old one. What a margin.

So we'll all have to wait and see if theres going to be a new star in the race.

But I imagine that the prospect of election 2008 no longer is starting to look like such a daunting task to many Liberals.

In fact I'll bet theres lots of young up and comers willing to rise to the occasion.

But can we get them to actually vote? Or run?

Mulroney misses London date

Bad weather and cancelled flights combine to keep him from today's Canadian Club session.

In a Toronto Star interview published January 8, 2005, Stronach confirmed that she was dating deputy Conservative leader Peter MacKay. After she left the Conservative Party, the Canadian Press reported that she and MacKay were taking "a break from their relationship". The National Post reported that MacKay was "gobsmacked" by her decision to join the Liberals. In October 2006, there was further fallout from this relationship, when backbench MP Mark Holland said that a Liberal colleague, David McGuinty asked MacKay about the impact of pollution on humans and animals by asking, "What about your dog?", in a joking manner (MacKay had been featured allegedly "posing" with his dog in the National Post newspaper after Stronach's defection). That is when Holland claims that MacKay made reference to Stronach's empty chair (as she was absent that day) and said "You already have her". Holland lodged a complaint with the Commons Speaker and demanded an apology be made by MacKay. In an interview with the press the following day, Stronach said that the comment is disrespectful not only to her, but to women and Canadians. She demanded an apology herself, which she would accept if given. MacKay has denied directly referring to Stronach as a "dog".[3] The alleged comment was not heard by Speaker of the House Peter Milliken and it was not recorded in the official Hansard. Afterwards, Milliken and his staff said that he could not hear the remarks on the tape recording.[4].- Thanks Wik.

IISI Backs Winning Steel Designs for Housing

Living Steel, a worldwide program instituted by several leading global steelmakers and managed by the IISI to promote steel-based solutions for environmentally sound, domestic architecture, has named the winning entries in its second International Architecture Competition for Sustainable Housing.

In the contest, architects were challenged to design “efficient and innovative housing solutions using steel construction to meet the demands of a burgeoning global shortage.” The competition called for entries that propose designs for one of three locations: Brazil, China, and the United Kingdom.

The winning designers are: Brazil, Andrade Morettin Arquitetos Associados Ltda., Brazil (see right, above); China, David Knafo Tagit Klimor, Architects and Town Planners, Israel; and the U.K., Cartwright Pickard Architects, U.K. (see right, below.)

Each of the winning firms will be awarded a prize of €50,000 and a contract to develop their designs for construction, with a demonstration building in each location. Fifteen other firms in the contest will be awarded a prize of €10,000 each.

The steelmakers that are members of the Living Steel coalition are Arcelor Mittal, Baosteel, Blue- Scope Steel, Celsa Group, Corus, Erdemir, Posco, Ruukki, SeverStal, and Tata Steel.

Fantino stops speeder;

Question for the Globe and Mail.

Recently it was reported that some parliamentary
ethics might be called into question regarding
the Schreiber Commission after it became known
that a CBC reporter may have forwarded questions
to some MP's on the commission board.

(My question for the Globe and Mail is innocuous
but perhaps with a small twist.)

I once had a letter I sent via email  published online on a message board forum for all to see. Without my expressed written permission and certainly without my approval.

Attached to it were my native tribal affiliation, my nationality and real first and last name.

So, I figure, why let someone else do the work for me?

I'll publish my own letters. Heres a copy of the letter I have sent to the newspapers in Canada about the so-called Schreiber Affair.

The Mulroney/Airbus/Schreiber Affair is exactly
what it is. A ménage à trois of corporate
business interests intermixed with private
ambitions pockmarked by deception,rivalry and
lies and conceits and an of course the dash of
politics to make the whole affair a troika of
competing tales.
Theres even secret meetings at hotels with cash
flowing into secret bank accounts.

At the top of the yet to be named scandal,
headlined in red ink (not!) are two companies one
which goes by the name Boeing and the other
Airbus, both at some point in time competing for
lucrative contracts in Canada.

Behind the seamy headlines, seemingly oblivious
to it all, two companies today quietly carry on
with their business.

Nowhere to be found in yesterdays shock inducing
stories including the bankrolling of Mulroneys'
takeover of the party from the Rt. Hon. Joe Clark
are the corollaries to this whole mess which are
the very catalyst for the events.

And nowhere in todays sensational headlines of
near lurid tales and phony affidavits are even
the slightest of references to what is happening
with Airbus Industries corporate daddy EADS over
in Europe as we roll over onto our pillows each
night.

I would like to give credit to most thinking
Canadians for our ability to read between the
lines.

Something the mainstream media with its own ties
to business,industry and government sometimes
finds itself in the untenable position of being
able to do.

A February election call timed with a public
inquiry? I guess by that time it will also be far
too late to just wish we had just not gone with
Boeing straight ahead and forward to increase our
focus on more important shock inducing headlines.

German Christian Democrat Party Bankrolls Election of Brian Mulroney?

globeandmail.com: The real Schreiber outrage: How foreign money ..

  --  -

Mulroney changed the status quo in Parliament by allowing the terms Right Honourable to be applied to an individual, rather than just Prime Ministers, Deputy PM.s and Honourable Members.

He took wads of cash from a person who is now wanted in his home country for numerous charges. As a person with a long association with Mr Schrieber, indeed someone who helped put him into power who also has a long record of doing business with Airbus, a high profile "friend" with Airbus Industrie(Franz Josef Strauss), what does the former Prime Minister expect Canadians to hold as a picture of him?

Does he think he honestly deserves the title of Rt Honorable?

FROM THE RCMP WEBSITE

Harassment is not:

  • Someone sending you one email or instant message even if it contains obscene comments, pornographic photo attachments, or a virus though there may be separate criminal offence of corrupting morals section 163 of the Criminal Code of Canada or related sections which refer to child pornography.
  • Comments made about you on a public forum (or on someone else's web site) unless the statements are libellous in which case the person or company that published them may be guilty of defamatory libel section 298 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • A threat made against you or another family to cause death or bodily harm, to damage or destroy your personal property, or to poison kill or injure an animal that is the property of a person. This would be an offence under section 264.1 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada - Uttering threats.
  • Spam. If you're online, you have to learn to live with junk email from companies offering everything from herbal supplements and cheap web hosting, to discount dog food and get-rich-quick schemes. There is nothing criminal about sending advertising via email which is what Spam is, however, some of the products you may be offered are not available or may be illegal in Canada. There are things you can do to reduce the amount of spam you receive, but it will never go away completely. Please refer to the section on unsolicited email.
