Prince George BC students winning poster design in a province-wide contest open to all high school students to raise awareness on the dangers of impaired driving.

She wins a MacBook Pro computer.

Some of the other contest submitted ads.

On the same reported day as a terrible accident that shuts down a two lane highway for 12 hours? The timing however auspicious for increased awareness couldn't be better.

And on the opposing end of the scale, for creative endeavour -,...look who is at it again.

The stadium is not too far from this underpass.

It's true I did approach my newspaper for this story, and did make protracted efforts to get the ball rolling and stimulate some interest in getting some murals painted on the underpass.

I had started out by emailing city hall with some photos I had snapped with my cell phone camera. Actually in addition to profane obscene grafitti, the vandals had destroyed the brand new lights which would ostensibly provided a safe passage way after dark.

It helps to remember the underpass was in fact brand new and recently built.

But since the response was negligible and apathetic from city hall, I thought shining some spot light attention on it from the press would ultimately help. I would learn a day or two later that the had put the story front page.

What bothered me the most was watching little ones, small kids all the way up to grown ones, begin to approach the tunnel even from a distance with a noticable sense of dread. Dragging their feet with shoulders slouched. Many would be already be traveling and walking that mile long hike (which only a teen would know of as being at least ten miles:) from the city's poorest neighborhood.

So I was glad to be able to help out at least a little in this area as well as others and was glad to finally hear that a art teacher had organized a contigent of students to paint murals on the underpass walls. Bright colorful inspiring images to replace the profane.

The town of PG is also looking to improve in other areas such as air quality, known for the worst in the province and possibly all of Canada.

What they need are more Tim Hortons. You know-,....to reduce emissions. (Sorry if that makes me sound like Sarah Palin!) But right now, all the people headed downtown go to the one TH's there....and the lineup could sometimes stretch 20-30 cars.

Its true. Tims, 4x4's and rifles are hand, glove and arm in the North.

But if you want clean air......you can't have idling.  I guess thats kinda like saying..if you want a job...you cant be blogging. (I coud show you my paycheck from this occupational hazard of mine)..less than RYP's royalities on his book I know that much.

Ahhh the memories...this building is the old location for the Vancouver Public Library.

http://vancouver.ca/ctyclerk/archives/PHOTOS/2008_06/001/A60496.JPG

..and today (below)

... the building holds a lot of memories for a lot of people. This is the library where I first learned of the Maastrich Treaty (precursor to the EU)  and discovered Saul Bellow.

http://b.imagehost.org/0886/Vancouver_Public_Library_Central_Branch_750_burrard_1959.jpg

Think about it: no internet of course, actual drawers with cards to find your books under subject, author etc.

It was the type of place where silence (shhh!) was the real modicum, unlike the hustle and bustle of libraries today where you are as apt to hear some one yapping on a cell phone, watching a DVD movie, reading an "e-book" , accessing the internet as you are to find them reading a book about third world poetry.

I look forward to the day when public libraries are open 24 hours with beds and showers. Laughs. I suppose you think thats very European of me.

You can still find books in the building , @ HMV, and some very interesting ones at that.

I think I'll probably buy something at the very, very, very,-.....VERy last moment. It'll probably be a chocolate or something. And as I'll deftly pop it in my mouth after a casual five foot vaunt toss into the air and savor the thought till next year-lol...

But I was inspired here to make a quick entry (can I call it a quickie-lol)...

...and blog about Vancouver weddings. Summer weather here with its gorgeous setting of beautific mountains and ocean makes it a perfect locale for your 50,000 investment to tie the know forver.

It would appear even our world and internationally famous Vancouver Public Library will accept your ultimate romantic overture, your life long serenade to your sweetie..

Let it Simmer: Is Josephine Baker this year’s Icon?

"A nation without fashion is a nation in uniforms" - ?

http://fashionforlunch.com/2011/01/let-it-simmer-is-josephine-baker-this-years-icon/

Baker was the first African- American female to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, she was offered the leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, but turned it down, for assisting the French Resistance during the Second World War and being the first American-born woman to receive the highest French military honor, the Croix de Guerre, and for being an inspiration to generations of African- American female entertainers and others.

"I was first attracted to Dubin's text by his title: Displays of Power. The ease with which we slip into displays of power is distressing to those of us who are trying to reinstitute a climate of mutuality and caring for justice. We all have problems with power. Once we have negotiated the rapids of the educational system, we, educators, forget the the difficulties, and expect our students to fare far better than we ourselves were able to. Dubin highlights the way this happens in our museums, and I hope that through discussing his stories and examples we may be able to more accurately recognize the instances in which similar things happen in the academ y."

the defendant did in fact post and make a blog entry about, near or remark close to the topic for which there is no recuse and had been given ample warning was unmentionable and nearly close to topic and or merchandise or person which was deemed a naught or no-no or no-go area

This constitutes that which the law perceives as harrasement

This link comes close to the general merchandising area of the persons area of expertise or business and might be perceived as a sleight or affront

it clearly contains links to what otherwise be determined as "racy material" and of a questionable nature

We wonder if the poster DID NOT mean to make an affront, we would like to know whats on his mind, and not merely point to the advertisers the links leads to as proof positive

Its also concurrent to think the entry contains an embedded political element in which the poster seeks to make some type of fun of the government and incumbent thought-police processing instruments employed for the good and welfare of the people to keep such items out of the purview of the public domain.

For this reason we suggest looking here instead and help monopolize our control of the public interest market

Canada’s longest running, British Columbian-owned brewery was established in 1957 on a fresh water spring in Prince George, BC. Originally named Caribou Brewing, Pacific Western Brewing Company (PWB) has had seven owners over it's storied past and achieved many milestones.

Including, being the first Canadian brewer to export to mainland China in 1991 and then to Russia in 1996. Along the way these achievements have shaped the BC beer backbone for over fifty years.
